Orthodox Christian Prison Ministry (OCPM), the official prison ministry of the Standing Conference of the Canonical Orthodox Bishops in the Americas (SCOBA) announces its 2010 Convocation, which will take place at the Embassy Suites Philadelphia International Airport in Philadelphia, PA. The purpose of the convocation is to bring together the many Orthodox clergy and laity from throughout North America who are participating in prison ministry or are interested in participating in prison ministry for a time of fellowship, education, encouragement, communal worship and the free exchange of ideas.

The registration fee is $150 if received before July 15, 2010. If received after July 15, 2010, the registration fee is $175. A limited number of scholarships are available for those whom the registration fee would prohibit attendance.
OCPM, the official prison ministry of SCOBA, brings the light of Christ to those who are in prison in North America by providing encouragement, material support, transition and reintegration services, Christian education, spiritual guidance and the sacramental life of the Church to prisoners and their families. - Chaplain Patrick Tutella, OCPM Executive Director, will reflect on the past year and offer an overview of the Convocation.
- Kory Warr will share about his personal involvement with OCPM and Fr. Stephen Powley, Chaplain, Federal Bureau of Prisons will share from his experiences. Kory and Fr. Stephen will lead our first "Getting to know you" session, inviting select attendees to briefly tell of their ministry.
- OCPM is here to help. Fr. Duane will share about the books and materials published by OCPM which are available for you to use within your ministry.

 His Grace, The Right Reverend Bishop Mark of Toledo and the Mid-West, (Bishop Mark) His Grace Bishop MARK was received into the Church through Holy Chrismation on Great and Holy Wednesday 1989. Soon after, he requested Metropolitan PHILIP’s blessing to attend St. Vladimir’s Orthodox Seminary. He received his Master of Divinity degree at St. Vladimir’s in 1991. Bishop MARK was ordained a deacon at the hand of Bishop ANTOUN at St. Mary Antiochian Orthodox Church in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania on August 17, 1997. On September 7, 1997, he was ordained to the Holy Priesthood at St. George in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Bishop MARK was consecrated to the Holy Episcopacy on December 5, 2004. His consecrating bishops included His Beatitude IGNATIUS IV at the Patriarchal Cathedral in Damascus, Syria. He was enthroned at St. George Cathedral in Toledo, Ohio on August 25, 2005 and serves as Bishop of the Diocese of Toledo and the Midwest. Bishop MARK is the SCOBA Appointed Spiritual Overseer of OCPM. Aside from his spiritual supervision, His Grace has hands on experience, having personally visited with the inmate Orthodox community of believers at the Indiana State Prison in Michigan City, IN. Under His Omophorion the first OCPM Jail and Prison Ministry 101 Training occurred in Indianapolis, Indiana, on April 10, 2010. This training now serves as a model for other regions of North America.
Chaplain Patrick Tutella (Chaplain Patrick) is the Executive Director of Orthodox Christian Prison Ministry. Chaplain Patrick has served as a volunteer from 1977-1979 in state and county correctional facilities in Pennsylvania. He has also served as a salaried chaplain in numerous correctional facilities from 1979-2008. One of his personal passions and concerns is ministering to prison wardens, administrators and staff in addition to caring for the spiritual needs of the people in prison. He has also developed the St. Lazarus Project, a team mentoring re-entry program for people returning to the community after serving a prison term. Chaplain Patrick serves as the official chaplain to the Pennsylvania County Corrections Association. He and his wife Cheryl reside in Pennsylvania with their five children and are members of St. Matthew’s Greek Orthodox Church in Blandon, PA.
Archimandrite Duane Pederson (Father Duane) is the Founding Director of Orthodox Christian Prison Ministry and is a priest in the Antiochian Archdiocese. For more than forty-seven years, Father Duane has served as a missionary to the poor and prisoners. Over the years, Father Duane has listened to and prayed with young prisoners in Juvenile Hall; walked on Death Row one cell at a time; written thousands of letters to prisoners; and embraced the homeless with the loving message of God's great compassion and mercy.
Very Rev. Fr. John Kowalczyk (Father John) is Chaplain at SCI Waymart (Forensic Unit) in Pennsylvania for the past 20 years and the pastor of St. Michael's Orthodox Church in Jermyn, PA in since 1985. He has served as Director of Field Education Studies at St. Tikhon's Orthodox Theological Seminary since 1987. Seminarians from St. Tikhon's complete an internship at the prison in their second year of Theology.
Fr. Stephen Powley (Father Stephen) has been a prison Chaplain since January 1985 and has served in every security level from minimum to maximum. He is a priest in the Antiochian Archdiocese and serves the Orthodox Churches of Southern Colorado as needed. He is married to Ashley and they have four children who are all attending different universities.
Very Rev. Fr. James Barkett (Fr. James) is the Director of Faith Based Counseling at Mahoning County Juvenile Justice Center Youngstown, OH. After serving as a parish priest for over fifteen years, Fr. James joined the Juvenile Justice Center in 2005. The vision of Faith Based Counseling at the center is to provide a nondenominational approach for youth to develop a feeling of hope and healing, but most importantly to present them with a non-judgmental environment to achieve it. Along with working with youth, Fr. James works closely with community and local churches in a collaborative approach to build positive venues for youth while at the detention center and especially when they reenter the community. As part of the Conflict Resolution Team at the Juvenile Justice Center, he has enjoyed working with both youth and staff, as well as assisting at other detention centers in Ohio. In addition, Fr. James is a member of the Disproportionate Minority Contact steering committee for the State of Ohio. He lives in Canfield, OH with his wife Elyse and sons Michael and Ernie.
Kathryn Saclarides is the Program Supervisor of Therapeutic Outreach Youth Services (TOYS) Program under Pilsen Wellness Center in Cicero, IL. The TOYS Program is an outpatient mental health clinic for children and adolescents. She is also a Mental Health Juvenile Justice Liaison (MHJJ) for the Southwest Side of Chicago and the Coordinator of the Reaching Out to Help Program, a mental health awareness initiative. Kathryn works with high-risk Latino and African-American youth who are either gang-affiliated, involved in the criminal justice system, or who have suffered from trauma/abuse. Apart from work, Kathryn lives in Chicago and attends St. John the Baptist Greek Orthodox Church in Des Plaines, IL. She has worked with the Orthodox Christian Mission Center (OCMC) in Albania and the International Orthodox Christian Charities (IOCC) in Ethiopia.
